Saturday: Date night! Kids are gone, my husband and I are going out for dinner.

I've saved a ton of money at Walgreens by rolling Register Rewards, but there is also a ton of things to remember when rolling them. I've listed a possible scenario to help give you some ideas.

I use Ramen noodles as a filler - number of coupons used cannot exceed number of items purchased. Sometimes I find a clearance item for less money or treat myself with a candy bar.

Remember:

1. Count the number of items you have and the number of coupons you are using. (A register reward is considered a coupon but an in-ad coupon isn't.) The register will not accept more coupons than items you're purchasing. Purchase fillers as needed.
2. Always give the cashier your coupons in groups, first Register Rewards, then manufacturer's coupons, and then Walgreens' coupons.
3. Only one Register Reward will print per offer per transaction. Split your items into several transaction if you want to earn Register Rewards on each of them. Example: This week if you want to buy more than one Ecotrin and get Register Rewards for each of them, they have to be in separate transactions.
4. If you use a Register Reward for the same brand of products, you will not receive another Register Reward. If you use a Register Reward for a different brand of product, you will receive a Register Reward.
5. Ask for a rain check if the store is out of a sale item. They don't expire and you can use them at any Walgreens.
6. You can use a Walgreens' coupon and a manufacturer's coupon on the same item. Read about Walgreens' Coupon policy.

Walgreens - FREE Cutter Advanced Insect Repellent

Edit: Walgreens has raised the price of Cutters 1oz. to 2/$6. I hope you picked up some before the price increase. Thanks SavingInAkron, for the heads up.

Note: I stopped at three Walgreens to check the price. One Walgreens location still had the shelf price at 2/$4. I would imagine it would ring up as 2/$6. I always ask for a manager when an item rings up for a different price than advertised on the shelf. They should adjust the price to the advertised shelf price, but I don't know if they are required to do this.

Pick up Cutter Advanced insect repellent 1 oz. pump for FREE at Walgreens. It's the perfect size for a purse or pocket.

Coupon Preview - Sara Lee, Marie's Dressing, Cutters + More

Sunday's 5/31/09 , St Louis Post Dispatch has Two coupon inserts -Redplum and SmartSource.

My favorite coupon this week - $1 on Sara Lee bread. Dierbergs has consistently had Sara Lee bread and sandwich buns on sale for around $1.50, so with this coupon and if Dierbergs keeps having them on sale, I can pick up bread products for around 50 cents.

Other than the Sara Lee coupon, this weeks inserts look mediocre to me. Maybe I'm just spoiled from all the fantastic inserts earlier in the month.

Remember: You want multiple coupons to use when a product is at a rock bottom price. When it's good coupon insert week, I purchase 4 or 5 papers and sometimes acquire more. At first, I thought it was crazy to spend money to save money. But I've always saved much more than my $1 investment.

DEAL$ sells the Sunday Post Dispatch for $1. The early edition is published on Saturday and it includes all the coupon inserts. They usually have the Sunday paper left around on Monday also. Find the DEAL$ closest to you here.

JC Penney - $10 off $25 Coupon

I Saved 67% This Week

My parents were in town for a few days this week. It is so nice to have a stocked pantry and freezer when extra people are at the house. All I did was stop at Aldi for more milk, eggs and berries, and I was all set for guests.

I took my parents grocery shopping to Dierbergs & Schnucks while they were here. My parents were quite happy to walk out of Dierbergs with a bag of groceries for 85 cents. I included a picture and details of their shopping at the end of my post. They did better than I did this week, saving 91%.

Menu Plan Monday - Week of May 24th

Thanks everyone who helped me out last week with instructions on how to cook a roast in the Crockpot to make BBQ beef sandwiches. I'm using the leftover beef to make burritos this week. Cathy sent me the instructions - shred the meat and put it back in the Crockpot with a can of tomatoes with green chilies. Serve with jack cheese in burritos. It sounds yummy. Thanks, Cathy.

And of course, we are having grilled pork steaks on Memorial Day. It can't be a summer holiday in St Louis without pork steaks. I'm not originally from St Louis, so I don't get the infatuation with them. They're fatty, though and have a lot of bones, but they are cheap. Someone from St Louis help me out here. Why does everyone love them, or is it just a guy thing?

Kmart Carries Marcal Toilet Paper & Paper Towel

Previously, I posted that Dierbergs was the only place I found that carried Marcal products to use the coupon for FREE (up to $4) toilet paper or paper towel found in the 5/17/09 SS insert

Thanks to my readers, I learned Kmart also carries Marcal products. I stopped at Kmart to do a price check and yes, they carry Marcal, but the shelves were wiped clean at the store I stopped at.

I asked if they would be restocking and the clerk at Customer Service couldn't tell me. I would suggest if you call the Kmart most convenient to you and ask if they have it in.

Whoo Hoo! I haven't seen a $5 off $25 coupon at Walgreens since Christmas. Then reality hit when I read the fine print. This coupon is good on a $25 purchase after manufacturer and Walgreens coupons. I haven't spent $25 out of pocket at Walgreens since Christmas and I didn't think I could - until I thought a minute.

Best (Maybe Only) Place to use the Marcal Coupon for FREE Toliet Paper or Paper Towel

The Marcal coupon for FREE (up to $4) toilet paper or paper towel in the 5/17/09 SS insert is a good one, but not if you can't find it.

I've checked Schnucks, Shop 'n Save and Dierbergs and the only store I found carrying any Marcal products is Dierbergs.

Edit 5/20: Readers are reporting they have seen Marcal products at Kmart.

Here is what I found at Dierbergs:
4 single roll Marcal toilet paper - $4.79
12 double roll Marcal toilet paper - $6.99
8 roll Marcal paper towel - $6.99

They had a decent supply of 12 roll TP and 8 roll paper towel, but only one package of the 4 roll TP. And I left it there.

My "buy" price for TP is .20 a single or .40 a double roll. The 12 count package of TP isn't a bad price, but I think I'll use my rain check for Cottonelle at Shop 'n Save instead.

Make sure you pick up a Schnucks ad. It has 4 manufacturer's coupon in it, since these are manufacturer's coupons you should be able to use them anywhere that accepts coupons.

My favorite deal this week - Breyers Ice Cream for $1.50 after coupon. I almost missed it because it was buried so deep in the ad.

Note: The Twin Oaks store matches Shop 'n Save's $10 off $50 Thursday deal. Take Shop 'n Save's ad with you to Schnucks to save the additional money.
