The Post-Dispatch reprinted a Chicago Tribune article today on the Opinion page - Sale, Half Off!
From the article:
"Turns out grabbing that great deal is a more, um, intense emotional experience than previously imagined. Researchers in England say they tested supermarket customers' responses to offers of bargains on certain items such as milk and bread. The researchers discovered that finding a great deal, even on something as mundane as milk, can give people the same rush that "sexual arousal from watching pornography does," London's Daily Mail reported.
Can anyone really get that excited about half-off on a loaf of bread? As one online commenter put it: "If that's the best feeling someone can get, a sexual thrill over a tin of peas, they really need to get out more!"
I'm off to do some bargain shopping.
