I am a little over budget this week, but I knew I had some cushion to work with since I have been averaging under $50 a week. I was pleased to stay close to my budget since I purchased 12 pounds of meat and extra berries to freeze.
Of course, I shopped on Thursday to take advantage of the $10 off $50 offer. The canned dog food was free with the coupon in last weekend's insert. I used two in-ad coupons - $5 off the Cinnabons, $2.50 off the Pop-Tarts - and of course, I had manufacturers' coupons for those items, too. The roast was free with the in-store coupon for $5 off meat when you buy 5 Tostitos.

There is not $84 worth of merchandise in this picture. I'm having camera problems and had to retake the picture the day after I brought my Walgreens goodies home. It's amazing how 6 Starbucks and 9 Snicker bars can disappear when a few extra teenagers are staying over. But a few Starbucks and Snickers is a small price to pay compared to what teens could be up to.

Target - Toy Clearance up to 75% Off
Kelly, a reader, emailed me to let me know she picked up some great deals yesterday at Target on toys. She mentioned there were some especially good buys at her Target on boy toys.There is one Target printable coupon for toys available. Go here to print a $5 off Hasbro games - Cranium, Things, Funglis, Taboo, or Electronic Catch Phrase. (It's towards the bottom of the page) If you are lucky, you might find one of these on clearance.
I think Target clearance shopping can be frustrating knowing what's on sale and what's the price. Make sure you use the price-checker box. You might find something for a better deal than you thought.

Qdoba - Grand Opening Freebies

Dierbergs had "Bonus Packs" in their ad this week. Before I learned how much I could save using coupons, I would have thought these were a great deal. Now, I know better. It is almost always best to use a coupon on the smallest sized package the coupon will allow. You will pay less per serving/use than when you use your coupon on the supersized package.Also, this week Dierbergs has Macaroni Gill Dinner Kits on sale. I love these dinner kits. I have the last one in my pantry on this weeks menu plan, so it is great timing these are on sale again. But, I'm not going to run right out and pick some up. It has been a long time since Shop 'n Save has had a Betty Crocker Catalina deal (Macaroni is a Betty Crocker product), and I'm playing the waiting game. Shop 'n Save's new ad will come out on Monday, this Dierbergs ad is still in effect on Monday and if I'm really lucky, Shop 'n Save will have a Catalina good for these dinner kits - if not I'll be heading to Dierbergs on Monday.

Schnucks Deals: 7/27/09 - 8/02/09
I base my Schnucks deal with their prices for the St Louis Metro area. Schnucks doubles coupon in the St Louis area up to and including 40 cents. In some areas they don't double coupons at all and in others they will double coupons all the way to $1.
Also, prices might not be the same - this week, boneless round steak in Jeff City, $1.99 and the St Louis area $2.99.
Note: The Twin Oaks store matches Shop 'n Save's $10 off $50 Thursday deal. Tara, a reader has let us know that Shop 'n Save's Twin Oaks store is offering $10 off $50 this week. Make sure you take a Shop 'n Save ad with you to Schnucks that states this. Run across the street and pick up one at Shop 'n Save if you need to.

Free half gallon chocolate milk with purchase of white gallon (max value $3.75)
I was all excited about these coupons - until thought about it. I haven't spent $100 on groceries in one shopping trip since I started using coupon - I don't spend $100 on groceries in two week.
But I do buy milk and my kids (husband too) would love it - if I brought chocolate home. I wonder how the grocery stores in St Louis will deal with this coupon for a FREE item. Schnucks and SNS say they won't accept a printable coupon for a free item. If you want to use these coupons, I would stop and talk to Customer Service (or maybe a better choice the Manager) before I checked out.

Sale prices good July 26 - August 1, 2009There are a couple of items on sale this week with in-ad coupons that will give you overage if you give the manufacturer coupon to the cashier before the in-ad coupon.
Warning: Do no let the cash register come up negative. It will freak the cashier out. I did this once, and I thought the cashier was going to have a stroke until I grabbed a candy bar to add to my purchase. That cashier still starts to twitch when I walk into the store.

Remember When Shopping at Walgreens:
- Count the number of items you have and the number of coupons you are using. (A register reward is considered a coupon but an in-ad coupon isn't.) The register will not accept more coupons than items you're purchasing. Purchase fillers as needed.
- Always give the cashier your coupons in groups, first Register Rewards, then manufacturer's coupons, and then Walgreens' coupons.
- Only one Register Reward will print per offer per transaction. Split your items into several transaction if you want to earn Register Rewards on each of them. Example: This week if you want to buy more than one hair dryer and get Register Rewards for each purchase, they have to be in separate transactions.
- If you use a Register Reward for the same brand of products, you will not receive another Register Reward. If you use a Register Reward for a different brand of product, you will receive a Register Reward.
- Ask for a rain check if the store is out of a sale item. They don't expire and you can use them at any Walgreens.
- You can use a Walgreens' coupon and a manufacturer's coupon on the same item. Read about Walgreens' Coupon policy.

Be on the look out for Kellogg's "Fuel for School" brochure. I found it at Schnucks in a free standing cardboard display that looked like a yellow school bus - and almost as big. You won't miss the bus, but the coupons aren't easy to find. I had never been in a Dollar General before today. I was pleasantly surprised on how neat and clean the store was - not at all like the other dollar stores in St Louis. And obviously, they do accept manufacturer coupons.
Note: The store I was at charged me sales tax on my total purchase before coupons. In Missouri, sales tax is calculated after coupons. I will contact Dollar General about this situation. If any one else in Missouri makes purchases using coupons at Dollar General, please let me know how your tax was figured.

I'm in the middle of the summer blahs - I think it is all this talk of back to school. Not that I didn't like school as a kid, but I always liked summer better.
