Saved 77% This Week

I spent a large portion of my budget this week on meat. I was pretty much down to only chicken in the freezer, and was beginning to think I was going to have to throw out my $2 or less per pound for meat philosophy. But, just as coupon wishes do come true, meat goes on sale when you need it to.

Shop 'n Save
The stars aligned this week at Shop 'n Save. Not only the $10 off $50 Thursday, the $8 in-store coupon for General Mills Cereals, $0.48 pasta, but Johnsonville Brats on sale, too. I can usually save a ton of money on a $10 off $50 Thursday, but this week the sales were for things my family loves.

Sappington Farmers' Market
Woo Hoo! $2 per pound pork tenderloin. I know pork tenderloin is a little pricey if it isn't on sale, but Schnucks is charging $6.89 per pound. Ouch! I might have to get back to Sappington Farmers' Market before the sale is over to pick up more.

Comparable Schnucks price: $45.38
Spent: $14.99
Saved: $30.30 for a 67% savings

Schnucks - 2 trips

More meat! I was at Schnucks early in the week to check some prices, and found ground chuck patties on a manager's special. They had been on sale the previous week, so I ended up paying 25% less than last week's sale price. The sell-by date was the same day I purchased them, but I usually end up putting meat in the freezer anyway.

Before coupons & sales: $36.64
Spent: $13.50
Saved: $23.14 for a 63% savings

Aldi
I was out of white rice, so picked it up at Aldi. It is about 50% less than the "big" grocery store's regular price. If I need a staple and haven't seen coupons and the product on sale, Aldi is the place to buy.

Comparable Schnucks price: $17.05
Spent: $9.58
Saved: $7.47 for a 44% Savings

Splurge Fund: $247.36

For those who don't read my blog on a regular basis, my splurge funds are the difference between what I've actually spent and my $50 budget. I use it for those items I never find on sale or that I don't have coupons for.
